Canada for Christmas 2022

 Made the long trek to Sun Peaks yesterday - very long (8 hours in total including stops for meals) , lots of snow and ice. Unfortunately did not arrive until well after dark but a nice surprise view in the morning. The owners had put up a Christmas tree which will be Aayla's first and the vigilant adults have three things (at least) to watch out for - Christmas tree decorations, fireplace and stairs! The view out the window of our apartment this morning! Can't see any neighbours which is brilliant!

This morning for the first time we have some sense of direction, with mountains visible in one direction and the city skyline in another, plus blue skies.  Hopefully bodes well for the drive to Sun Peaks tomorrow. Spent yesterday shopping at Granville Island markets for Christmas fare and, for some, a visit to a local brewery. Amazing pizzas for dinner at a local restaurant to which we could walk from our place via all the Christmas lights. Yes Australian mangos!

Evan's last day of work today before a  Christmas and New Year break.  David, Kat and Evan went to the ice hockey last night but disappointing game for the Kanooks.  Spent yesterday afternoon in our apartment (which is larger than Evan and Jana's) and then had dinner at Earls in the City centre.  Continuing to snow and access via our basement staircase was tricky this morning! Evan and Jana's balcony - not sure the palm likes it!

A tricky walk to Evan and Jana's apartment and then to breakfast, via the dog park.  Vancouver does not deal well with snow and even the main roads are not regularly cleared.  Only had two near misses (hard landings) on the icy footpaths but managed to stay standing!

 Finally arrived in Canada after a very long three flight journey. Melbourne to Sydney; Sydney to LA; then LA to a Vancouver. Fortunately all three flights were on time but having to pick up luggage and clear customs in LA is horrific and took ages. I would be happy to hold out for a direct flight or pay more in future. Just in time for bathtime!

 Looking forward to spending Christmas in Canada with this little munchkin  .... and her Dad and Mum of course!
